Sailing Fundamentals

Sailing Fundamentals

by Gary Jobson
Written by America's foremost instructional authority, the new edition of Sailing Fundamentals combines the training programs of the American Sailing Association and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. The official learn-to-sail manual of the American Sailing Association, it is also used in the programs of many yacht clubs, colleges, and sailing groups. Unlike most introductory sailing books, which reflect the biases and idiosyncrasies of their authors, Sailing Fundamentals has been extensively pretested by ASA professional instructors to ensure that it offers the fastest, easiest, most systematic way to learn basic sailing and basic coastal cruising. This book covers every aspect of beginning sailing -- from hoisting sail to docking and anchoring -- and specifically prepares the learner to qualify for sailing certification according to international standards.

Corporate sailing in Scotland

It’s almost impossible to believe that, for the past thirty years, in a country surrounded by water, there has been only one corporate sailing boat for charter.

That situation has just been reversed with news that Scots entrepreneur, Craig Perkins, has launched Geronimo Events, into which he has invested almost £500,000 with the purchase of three vessels, exclusively for corporate hire.

And with the Scottish corporate entertainment market spending tens of millions annually, Geronimo Events is projecting a turnover approaching £1m in year one, with the figure expected to rise to £4m by 2007.

Perkins comments: "The Scottish corporate market place is always crying out for ‘something different’ and that is exactly what Geronimo can offer."

Perkins, who is one of the founding Directors of Key Reservations, the successful Scottish hotels rooms booking service, came by the idea quite simply.

"I am a huge sailing fan and have been since childhood. As a fully qualified skipper myself, over the years, I have often taken clients out on my boat for a day’s sailing as a thank you for their continued business. The positive feedback, coupled with this ‘something different’ factor, has convinced me that the corporate market is ready for Geronimo."

The company offers a one stop shop for all matters sailing related - whether it’s a wining and dining client day, a teambuilding event for staff or a ‘racing’ day for departments, Geronimo Events and their highly skilled crew can cater for these.

Uniquely, for those who prefer ‘terra firma’, the company can also bring the high seas to land. With their fleet of quarter scale racing yachts, the company can recreate any of their outdoor offerings in either a hotel or municipal swimming pool!

Geronimo offers a range of bespoke packages, now making a day on the high seas, accessible to most corporate budgets.
