Sailing Fundamentals

Sailing Fundamentals

by Gary Jobson
Written by America's foremost instructional authority, the new edition of Sailing Fundamentals combines the training programs of the American Sailing Association and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. The official learn-to-sail manual of the American Sailing Association, it is also used in the programs of many yacht clubs, colleges, and sailing groups. Unlike most introductory sailing books, which reflect the biases and idiosyncrasies of their authors, Sailing Fundamentals has been extensively pretested by ASA professional instructors to ensure that it offers the fastest, easiest, most systematic way to learn basic sailing and basic coastal cruising. This book covers every aspect of beginning sailing -- from hoisting sail to docking and anchoring -- and specifically prepares the learner to qualify for sailing certification according to international standards.

Moorings 4000 catamaran

CLEARWATER, Fla., Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Moorings 4000, the latest design in The Moorings catamaran range, was named "Overall Best Import Boat of the Year 2005" in addition to winner of the "Multihulls 40' and Under" category by the judges of Cruising World's Boat of the Year Awards. These awards came in addition to the "Best Boats 2005" title recently bestowed by Sail Magazine, after evaluations conducted at the Newport Boat Show in Rhode Island and at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland. The Moorings 4000, built by South African builders Robertson and Caine and designed by performance catamaran experts Morrelli & Melvin, is the fourth Moorings catamaran to draw the attention of these prestigious awards.

The judges were impressed with the performance and easy handling of the new Robertson and Caine built catamaran. "In design and execution, and under sail...the Moorings 4000 represents the absolute state-of-the-art in production building," said Cruising World editor, Herb McCormick.

Twenty-four boats in six categories were selected as finalists. The boats were judged by a panel of independent experts and evaluated based upon design, construction, seaworthiness, performance, purpose of boat, fitness for intended use and cost. Judge Alvah Simon found "good workmanship and good ergonomics throughout, good workstations and good safety features." The judges concluded, "The runaway winner in its class, the Moorings 4000 was the boat the most consistent with its design objective and which did so many things so well."

Fruit of a close collaboration between The Moorings, the designers and builders, this catamaran offers it all for vacationers seeking the ideal cruising platform. "We are proud to accept these awards, a testament of our commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and dedication to providing the utmost in personal service to our customers -- it's the heart of our company philosophy," explains Lex Raas, President.

The new Moorings 4000 features a large cockpit with an outside dining area protected by a functional hardtop bimini. The galley-up design incorporates a spacious saloon area and aft facing galley with a cocktail bar and practical serving window overlooking the cockpit. Accommodations include four double cabins and two large heads with separate shower stalls. The 4000 contains all the top features sailors desire, including a superb anchoring system, good sail area, excellent ventilation, complete electronics package, CD stereo and twin diesel engines. The yacht will be available for charter in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Australia, Belize, the Bahamas and Seychelles.

The Moorings 4000 is available for purchase through The Moorings Advantage Yacht Ownership Program, with attractive benefits for owners including guaranteed revenues, up to nine weeks' sailing time each year and 100% of operating and maintenance costs taken care of, including dockage and insurance. Private buyers (no management program) have the choice of a four- cabin layout or a three-cabin layout with a designated owner's hull.

The Moorings provides Bareboat (sail-it-yourself) and Signature (with professional captain and chef) vacations from 32 bases in some of the most desirable cruising areas in North America, the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, South Pacific, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.
