Twenty-four boats in six categories were selected as finalists. The boats were judged by a panel of independent experts and evaluated based upon design, construction, seaworthiness, performance, purpose of boat, fitness for intended use and cost. The judges concluded, "The runaway winner in its class, the Moorings 4000 was the boat the most consistent with its design objective and which did so many things so well."
