Sailing Fundamentals

Sailing Fundamentals

by Gary Jobson
Written by America's foremost instructional authority, the new edition of Sailing Fundamentals combines the training programs of the American Sailing Association and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. The official learn-to-sail manual of the American Sailing Association, it is also used in the programs of many yacht clubs, colleges, and sailing groups. Unlike most introductory sailing books, which reflect the biases and idiosyncrasies of their authors, Sailing Fundamentals has been extensively pretested by ASA professional instructors to ensure that it offers the fastest, easiest, most systematic way to learn basic sailing and basic coastal cruising. This book covers every aspect of beginning sailing -- from hoisting sail to docking and anchoring -- and specifically prepares the learner to qualify for sailing certification according to international standards.

Raymarine Unveils New Satellite TV System 45 STV

Company Expands Entertainment Product Offerings with a High Performance System that Brings Hundreds of Channels Into Your Vessel’s 'Living Room'

Nashua, N.H. (February 17, 2005) - Raymarine, the world leader in marine electronics, today announced that the company is launching a satellite television system for boaters that will give them access high quality satellite television while at sea.

The Raymarine 45 STV will bring the hottest shows, biggest movies and most anticipated sporting events, all in crisp digital quality picture and sound, to your boat. On the open seas or at the dock, the 45 STV automatically identifies, acquires and tracks compatible signals from all digital video broadcast (DVB) satellites.

Equipped with innovative technologies such as DBT (Dynamic Beam Tilting) and WRS (Wide Range Search), the System has the ability to track satellite signals and conduct instantaneous search and location of nearby satellites while in motion, ensuring that the most reliable link is maintained. In addition, the aesthetics of the System are just as appealing as its technological capabilities. Encased in an attractive, all-white dome design, the 45 STV is a perfect complement to boats of all sizes and types. The dome is now available in 45cm version, with a 60 cm product to be available by the end of 2005. The Raymarine System also allows boaters who already are equipped with Raymarine technology one consistent look with which to outfit their vessel.

"Raymarine has a long tradition of providing its customers with the technologies they need to make their boating experience as pleasurable as possible. Today, that means outfitting their vessels with the same entertainment resources they have in their homes," said Terry Carlson, President of Raymarine. "The introduction of Raymarine’s new Satellite TV System reflects our vision of being the premium brand for every marine electronics need. Now, consumers are able to rely upon the Raymarine brand to satisfy the highest demands for both navigational and entertainment capabilities."

The Raymarine Satellite TV System will be available in Spring 2005 in North America and Summer 2005 for Europe. The System is compatible with all DVB satellite TV subscription services, allowing the consumer flexibility and convenience in the selection of a service provider.
